We need your help! We are relocating blocks from the 18th tee, we would be most grateful if you are able to take a few blocks as you pass and put them on the pallet. Many hands make light work of a heavy job.

A huge thank you to all those involved in the Spring Race Meeting and dinner held last Sunday evening. We served out 128 meals from meat, veges and dessert donated and cooked by the Ladies and then followed with the race meeting. Cheeses were donated by Fonterra. All up we made a profit of $6381. A great effort coordinated by Glenda Allen. It was so good to see the Clubroom full and being used by Club members and friends. Thank you.

This week we have had the sad passing of Eugene Shepherd after a short illness. Eugene was a past member and will be remembered for his dedication to the rules of golf and his involvement with the golf referees association.

We have been looking at safety improvements around the course. The stairs up the side of the clubhouse are a current project as they have become slippery in wet weather. Thank you to Norm York for installing the metal treads on the stairs.

President’s September Update

Maramarua Golf Club Update September 2016

As some of you will know, Manukau Golf Club have opened a new course in Ardmore. There have been some delays in getting all 18 holes ready for play so that their members are only able to use 9 holes at present. The MGC Board has forwarded an invitation to Manukau members to come and use our course for a green fee and they are welcome to join in Club days or casual golf. Please welcome these players to our facilities.

The turf collection is still not confirmed but Graham is confident that it will proceed on Friday, Sunday and Monday. His phone number is 09 2982468 if you can help. Entry to Manukau Golf Club will be via Keywella Drive, Conifer Grove.

The board has decided to cancel the proposed raffle because there was a risk of not selling enough tickets to cover costs. We thank Jim Black for his work on getting it to the printing stage with the appropriate approvals etc.

Meanwhile the Spring Race Night and Dinner is going ahead with tickets selling at the Office. The first race is 5:30 pm and the evening should be finished by 9pmā€¦come and enjoy a good dinner, good company and a fun evening at the Golf Club Sunday 11th September.

The drainage work on the 13th fairway was given a good test last week and Tony tells me it worked well with water rushing out during the downpour and stopping soon after as the rain drained away. It was certainly dry there this week. Thanks to the hard working men who helped with this project.

As the end of the year and the AGM approaches members need to be considering people who may be able to take on the challenge of a Board position for the Club. Please think about whether you could share your interest and skills in the governance of this Golf Club.

Sue Brice, President
